On December 10, Gerry Richardson's Big Idea launch their new CD 'So Many Reasons' at the Sage Gateshead...

November 08, 2012

Gerry Richardson's Big Idea is a dynamic nine-piece Hammond organ based band exploring the jazz organ genre to the max! Soul, Gospel, Funk, Swing and Samba are all part of the mix. Add to that some kicking original tunes, many written as tributes to the legendary jazz and soul musicians who have inspired Gerry throughout his career and you get an unbeatable format for a great nights' music.

The band, has been expanded to 12 piece with Neil Harland on bass and Liz Corney and Lindsay Hannon on backing vocals. This is to further realise what the Independent called 'The most rollicking jazz-soul ensemble imaginable, like a Geordie riposte to Tower of Power. They're all good, these musicians, but Richardson's organ playing, drummer Paul Smith, and best of all an absolutely extraordinary guitarist named Rod Sinclair, were so on-the-money they made you laugh out loud with delight.'

Tickets are available for what promises to be a terrific night at thesagegateshead.org/event/gerry-richardson/.

"So turn up the album loud enough for your neighbours to hear, imagine yourself in a steamy, heaving club in Newcastle and let the warm currents of music wash over you, soothe your body and nourish your soul. Enjoy!" - Sting on 'Cookin' at the Cluny'.

The Big Idea
Very unlikely sadly, as Sting is playing in Manila the night before. Unless he appeared by video link ... I went to the launch of Gerry's previous album, 'This is What We Do' and Sting did appear via video link to sing 'Springtime in the City', accompanied by The Big Idea. It was great. They are a brilliant band and Shirley and I have seen them many times. Bought my ticket a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait. A guaranteed good night out for anyone who can make it and a bargain at £10 a ticket!
